In 2011, the historic Banksy canvas was auctioned at Christie’s Post War & Contemporary Art in London, almost tripling its £50,000 estimate. It was originally exhibited in 2002 at Santa’s Ghetto, a recurring exhibition where Banksy paintings sold for just a few hundred pounds in the early years before the hype – and sometimes even remained unsold. Banksy’s “anti-war metaphor” depicts a bird with a hand grenade hanging from its beak and is an example of his “defaced” works in which stencilled images are spray-painted onto a found canvas that may have been bought at a flea market or salvaged from a dumpster.

“Bird and Grenade” was sold at an auction in the Netherlands for 170,000€. The work of art, created in 2002, went to a Dutch collector. The artwork came from the private collection of Jamie Wood, son of the legendary Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood. The spray-painted image shows a bird with a hand grenade hanging from its beak – an anti-war metaphor by the artist.

Ursprünglich wurde es 2002 im Santa‘s Ghetto ausgestellt, einer immer wiederkehrenden Ausstellung, in der Banksy-Gemälde in den frühen Jahren vor dem Hype für nur wenige Hundert Pfund verkauft wurden – und manchmal unverkauft blieben. Banksys „Anti-Kriegs-Metapher“ zeigt einen Vogel, an dessen Schnabel eine Handgranate hängt, und ist ein Beispiel für seine „verunstalteten“ Arbeiten, bei denen schablonierte Bilder auf eine gefundene Leinwand gesprüht werden, die vermutlich meist auf einem Flohmarkt gekauft oder aus einem Müllcontainer geborgen wurde.

W 2011 roku historyczne płótno Banksy’ego zostało sprzedane na aukcji Christie’s Post War & Contemporary Art w Londynie, prawie trzykrotnie przekraczając szacunkową kwotę 50 000 funtów. Pierwotnie wystawiono je w 2002 roku na Santa’s Ghetto, cyklicznej wystawie, na której obrazy Banksy’ego sprzedawały się za zaledwie kilkaset funtów we wczesnych latach zanim zyskał rozgłos, a czasem nawet pozostawały niesprzedane. Bird and Grenade Banksy’ego przedstawia ptaka trzymającego w dziobie z granat ręczny. Jest przykładem „zeszpeconych” prac, w których szablony są malowane natryskowo na znalezionym płótnie, które mogło zostać kupione na pchlim targu lub uratowane ze śmietnika.

Bird and Grenade został sprzedany na aukcji w Holandii za 170 000 euro. Dzieło stworzone w 2002 roku trafiło do holenderskiego kolekcjonera. Pochodzi z prywatnej kolekcji Jamiego Wooda, syna legendarnego gitarzysty Rolling Stones, Rona Wooda. Namalowany sprayem obraz, przedstawia ptaka trzymającego w dziobie z granat ręczny, który jest antywojenną metaforą artysty.
