The print Dumbo emanates from Banksy’s short video “Rebel Rocket Attack” from 2013, a parody of the YouTube videos that Syrian rebels uploaded to the internet during the two-year civil war. It shows a group of men in military uniform firing a portable air defense system (MANPAD) towards the sky. The rebels shout the Takbir (“Allahu Akbar”) after successfully hitting the unknown flying object. The target crashes to the ground and turns out to be Disney’s Dumbo. In the key scene, there is a similarly dressed child who is not happy after the elephant crashes and kicks one of the men in the shins. We also see this child in the print. Marked by the toy it drags behind it in its left hand, it stands unarmed in front of the injured Dumbo. The work is a limited edition of 25 prints.
Der Druck Dumbo entstammt Banksys Kurzvideo „Rebel Rocket Attack“ von 2013, einer Parodie zu den YouTube-Videos, die syrische Rebellen während des zweijährigen Bürgerkriegs im Internet hochgeladen haben. Es zeigt eine Gruppe von militärisch gekleideten Männern, die ein tragbares Luftverteidigungssystem (MANPAD) in Richtung Himmel abfeuern. Die Rebellen rufen nach erfolgreichem Treffen des unbekannten Flugobjekts den Takbir („Allahu Akbar“). Das Ziel stürzt zu Boden und entpuppt sich als Disney-Charakter Dumbo. In der Schlüsselszene befindet sich ein ähnlich gekleidetes Kind, das sich nach dem Absturz des Elefanten nicht freut, sondern einem der Männer vor das Schienbein tritt. Dieses Kind sehen wir auch in dem Print. Gekennzeichnet durch das Spielzeug, welches es in der linken Hand hinter sich herzieht, steht es unbewaffnet vor dem verletzten Dumbo. Das Werk ist eine limitierte Auflage von 25 Drucken.

Les rebelles crient le Takbir (« Allahu Akbar ») après avoir réussi à toucher l’objet volant inconnu. La cible s’écrase au sol et se révèle être Dumbo, le personnage de Disney. Dans la scène-clé, un enfant porte des vêtements similaires et donne un coup de pied dans le tibia d’un des hommes plutôt que de se réjouir de la chute de l’éléphant. On voit aussi cet enfant dans l’imprimé, traînant derrière lui un jouet de sa main gauche, il se tient désarmé devant Dumbo blessé. L’œuvre est une édition limitée à 25 tirages.
Grafika Dumbo pochodzi z krótkiego filmu Banksy’ego „Rebel Rocket Attack” z 2013 roku, będącego parodią filmów, które syryjscy rebelianci umieszczali w Internecie podczas dwuletniej wojny domowej. Przedstawia grupę mężczyzn w mundurach wojskowych, strzelających w kierunku nieba z przenośnego systemu obrony przeciwlotniczej (MANPAD). Rebelianci wykrzykują Takbir („Allahu Akbar”) po udanym trafieniu w nieznany obiekt latający. Cel rozbija się o ziemię i okazuje się być słoniem Dumbo z bajki Disneya. W kluczowej scenie pojawia się podobnie ubrane dziecko, które nie jest szczęśliwe po tym, jak słoń się rozbija i kopie jednego z mężczyzn w kostkę. Widzimy również to dziecko na grafice. Wyróżniony jest przez zabawkę, którą ciągnie za sobą w lewej ręce, stoi nieuzbrojony przed rannym Dumbo. Pracę wydano w limitowanej edycji 25 wydruków.
