Banksy’s Gangsta Rat is part of a collection of signed and unsigned prints in various colours. The first edition was published in 2004 in red colour with 150 signed and 350 unsigned prints. In 2015, the artist reissued some rare colour variants. It depicts a black and white rat with a boom box, wearing a New York Yankees baseball cap and a necklace. The figure depicted is reminiscent of the New York underground style that was widespread in the UK in the 1980s and 90s. The rat appears to have written „iPow“ in spray paint on the wall behind him. The image is an ironic social commentary on the ubiquity of Apple products, and POW is a reference to Banksy’s print publication: Pictures on Walls.
