The triptych Mediterranean Sea View from 2017 is a three-part work on the refugee crisis. Each of the three paintings depicts a section of coastline in the style of Romanticism, with waves washing up empty life jackets and buoys. He defamiliarises conventional oil paintings, creating a work that appears as a 19th-century seascape but focuses on one of the burning issues of the 21st century. They are understood as a response to the European migration crisis of the last decade, in which hundreds of thousands of people have fled war and conflict and attempted to reach the continent on dangerous journeys across the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas. Banksy here juxtaposes a historical art genre along with the Christian connotation of the triptych and a political contemporary scandal. Before the triptych has been auctioned for 2.4 million euros, it hung in the lobby of the “Walled Off Hotel”. The proceeds of the auction go to a Palestinian hospital in Bethlehem.

Każdy z trzech obrazów przedstawia fragment wybrzeża w romantycznym stylu, z falami obmywającymi puste kamizelki ratunkowe i boje. Artysta wykonuje konwencjonalne obrazy olejne, tworząc dzieło, które wygląda jak XIX-wieczny pejzaż morski, ale koncentruje się na jednym z palących problemów XXI wieku. Odbiera się je jako odpowiedź na europejski kryzys migracyjny z ostatniej dekady, w którym setki tysięcy ludzi uciekło przed wojną i konfliktami, próbując dotrzeć na kontynent podczas niebezpiecznych podróży przez Morze Śródziemne i Egejskie.
