Submerged Phone Booth is an installation that was shown at the “Barely Legal” exhibition in LA in September 2006. It is a replica of an iconic red British phone box that has half sunk into the ground or emerges from it. With the success of mobile phones, the phone boxes became more and more redundant. Nowadays, most phone boxes are no longer used for their original purpose and are increasingly disappearing. Besides this work,Banksy created a second one called Death of a Phone Booth which shows a phone box that has been stabbed to death. He placed this one on the streets of Soho, London. The sculptures symbolise the demise of past communication mechanisms.
Submerged Phone Booth ist eine Installation, die in LA im September 2006 bei der „Barely Legal“-Ausstellung gezeigt wurde. Es handelt sich um eine Nachbildung einer ikonischen roten britischen Telefonzelle, die zur Hälfte schräg im Boden versinkt oder aus diesem herausbricht. Heutzutage sind die Boxen nicht mehr funktional und verschwinden zunehmend aus dem Stadtbild. Mit dem Erfolg der Mobiltelefone werden die Telefonzellen kaum noch benutzt. Banksy erschuf neben dieser Arbeit ein zweites Werk namens Death of a Phone Booth, welches eine Telefonbox zeigt, die erschlagen wurde. Diese platzierte er in Soho, London. Die Skulpturen symbolisieren den Nieder-gang vergangener Kommunikationsmechanismen.
Submerged Phone Booth est une installation présentée en septembre 2006 à LA dans le cadre de l’exposition « Barely Legal ». Il s’agit d’une réplique d’une cabine téléphonique rouge emblématique du Royaume-Uni en train de s’enfoncer dans le sol de biais. De nos jours, les cabines téléphoniques ne sont plus fonctionnelles et disparaissent progressivement du paysage urbain. Avec le succès des téléphones portables, les cabines ne sont tout simplement plus utilisées. À côté de cet ouvrage, Banksy présente une deuxième œuvre appelée « Death of a Phone Booth », qui montre une cabine téléphonique mise à mort. Il les a placées à Soho, à Londres. Les sculptures illustrent le déclin des supports de communication du passé.

Het is een replica van een iconische rode Britse telefooncel die half in de grond is gezakt of eruit omhoogkomt. Tegenwoordig zijn de kasten niet langer functioneel en verdwijnen zij steeds meer uit de steden. Door het succes van mobiele telefoons werden telefooncellen steeds overbodiger. Naast dit werk creëerde Banksy een tweede, getiteld Death of a Phone Booth, waarin een telefooncel te zien is die is doodgestoken. Hij plaatste dit werk op straat in Soho, Londen. De sculpturen symboliseren het verdwijnen van vroegere communicatiemechanismen.
Submerged Phone Booth on installaatio, joka esitettiin Barely Legal -näyttelyssä Los Angelesissa syyskuussa 2006. Se on jäljennös ikonisesta punaisesta brittiläisestä puhelinkopista, joka näyttää vajonneen osittain maan sisään tai nousevan siitä esiin. Puhelinkopit ovat nykyään kadonneet käytöstä ja häviävät vähitellen kaupunkikuvasta, sillä matkapuhelinten yleistyminen on tehnyt niistä tarpeettomia. Samasta teemasta Banksy toteutti myös teoksen Death of a Phone Booth, jossa Lontoon Sohoon sijoitettua puhelinkoppia on lyöty hakulla. Molemmat teokset symboloivat menneiden viestintämuotojen häviämistä.
